Rep. Strama to Kick Off Digital Media Center Dedication

Representative Mark Strama will kick off the re-dedication of Austin’s community television studios, Saturday, October 10 at 2:30 PM. channelAustin has been technologically transformed into a fully operational High Definition digital community media center with cutting edge opportunities for digital media training, production, and distribution, that’s poised to meet the expanded needs of Austin’s creative community.

 

channelAustin’s event – the digital fusion fest – celebrates the recently completed $1 million upgrade of the building, studios, and field equipment, made possible with Time Warner Cable capital equipment funds.

 

The ribbon cutting ceremony starts this Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2:30 PM in East Austin at 1143 Northwestern Avenue, Austin, TX 78702.

 

Following Representative Strama, Matt Curtis of Mayor Lee Leffingwell’s office will read a proclamation declaring Oct. 10 “digital fusion fest day.”

 

Other speakers include Rondella Hawkins (Telecommunications and Regulatory Affairs Manager for the City of Austin), Susan Patten (Vice President of Government Affairs at Time Warner Cable), Chip Rosenthal    (Chair of the Austin Community Technology & Telecommunications Commission) and Dr. Scott D. Roberts (channelAustin Board Co-Chair & Professor in Digital Media Business Management, St. Edwards University).

 

The entire digital fusion fest, from 2:00 to 5:30 PM, will air live on cable channels 10, 11, and 16, and will feature an afternoon of free activities ranging from live music and spoken word to an amazing set of kids activities, studio tours, as well as participation from numerous non-profits, the fire fighters association and local area businesses.

 

At channelAustin every Austin resident can now shoot with cutting-edge HDV digital cameras and edit on Apple’s industry standard Final Cut Pro software, or produce live television shows in an HD environment on par with or better than most in Central Texas.

 

channelAustin is a non-profit 501(c3), contracted with the City to manage the digital community media center and television studios located in East Austin.
